Who I Am
Home to me has always been Los Angeles, more specifically Pasadena. I have grown up here and haven’t lived anywhere else. Yet, I hope to change that one day. One place I know I do want to go is San Francisco. I have been to the city on three different occasions and each time I have felt like that was the place I wanted to be. Although I have recently gained an interest in data analytics and hope to pursue a career involving that, I am not specifically sure what my future might look like. Maybe a career in analytics will hopefully take me up north.
I think my parents have shown me a lot. My mother has traveled around the world and has shown me that there is plenty to discover outside of the comfort of where we call home. Because of her I love to travel and hope to one day make it to all the different parts of the world. My dad has always taught me to go after what I want and has never failed to do the same. However, unlike my father, I feel as if sometimes I lack the same initiative that he has.
For a majority of my life I have felt as if I was trying to live up to my father’s expectations of me: get to USC, graduate, get a good job. But throughout my time here at USC I’ve been doing a better job of trying to figure out exactly what those things mean to me. I of course still plan to graduate and to have a job, but I have been trying to figure out what a ‘good’ job means to me. Perhaps something that provides me purpose and satisfaction, rather than a title and an office. More recently I would say I have definitely started to follow my own expectations and pursue what makes me happy.
Someone who I think lives with great passion and personal responsibility is my friend Juan. He is someone who is committed to pursuing the things he loves and who takes great consideration of the role he places in not only his own life, but the lives of those around him. He is someone I consider a true friend and someone who I think has done well for himself.
I think I feel the greatest connection to cats. Specifically a lynx. Despite only being twice as large as a house cat, lynxes are strong defenders and fierce hunters. Although on the smaller scale of wild cats, they are mighty. While most people often think cats to be passive animals, I think they are one of the smartest out there.
I think a significant encounter with a tree would be the kumquat tree I had in the backyard of my childhood home. Although I never liked the taste of kumquats myself, my mother, sister, and father did. This tree reminds me of happy times in my childhood home.

Hey Vivian. Los Angeles has always been home to me as well. I truly love this city, but I also have a desire to live in another city with an expectation to return to Los Angeles. I love the tree you picked since I also have fond memories of them, however I do like the taste of them.
ReplyDeleteHi Vivian! I love that you know exactly where you would like to move after you graduate. I have never been to San Francisco but I bet it is really lovely. I hope your interest within data analytics helps you get there.
ReplyDeleteI love the connection to the lynx! Big national geographic and planet earth fan.
ReplyDeleteHey Vivian, a lynx is an amazing animal to connect with and just like you, my home has always been California, which is why I am very interested in what San Francisco has to offer.
ReplyDeleteHey Vivian. Data analytics sounds like an interesting and useful career to pursue in the future.

ReplyDeleteHey Vivian! I love that you have where you want to be figured out. I have always struggled with that question. San Francisco is great choice!
